    In De Dennen and on unguarded beaches (from September to March), dogs are allowed to roam off-leash. In other areas of the island, dogs must be kept on a leash. This makes sense with thousands of sheep in the meadows, migratory birds in nature reserves, and many other island visitors. Be sure to check in advance where your dog can run free.

  • Walking Routes with Your Dog

    There are so many beautiful walking routes through the forest, De Slufter, or Texel's old countryside. As long as your dog is on a leash, you can explore virtually anywhere with your four-legged friend. The Bleekersvallei is a stunning loop through dunes and a bit of forest.

    The Texel Pet Store in Den Burg (next to the Jumbo) has a real dog wash station. If your dog has taken a dive in the sea or jumped into a muddy ditch, you can give them a nice clean-up. You can also shop for dog toys or treats—after all, it’s vacation!
